Afterschool Programs

PTM MAIN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM SITE

PTM has been operating its main afterschool program to children living in the Preston Taylor community of northwest Nashville since 1998. In 2007, the program moved into the newly renovated Hal and Martha Wilson Center at 4014 Indiana Avenue, allowing the afterschool site to move from temporary, borrowed space to a permanent location. The program currently serves 75 children in kindergarten through 8th grade. Led by Children's Director Sarah Norberg, the program is staffed by 3 reading specialists and a number of volunteers who provide mentoring relationships to the children. Children rotate between classes of systematic reading instruction, homework assistance, math and reading tutoring, and enrichment activities. Annually, PTM is seeing more 75% of its students improve by more than a grade level in reading. The program runs from 4pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday. 

FAITH UNITED AFTERSCHOOL SITE

In the fall of 2008, Preston Taylor, in partnership wtih Faith United Missionary Church, launched a second afterschool program in the Whites Creek area of Nashville. The program, led by Reverend Joyce Hyde as the Site Director and Penny Baga as the reading specialist, serves up to 20 children in kindergarten through 4th grade who live in a nearby apartment complex. Students rotate between homework assistance, enrichment activities, and reading instruction. The program runs from 3pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

PARK AVENUE AFTERSCHOOL SITE

In August 2009, PTM opened its 3rd afterschool site in conjunction with Crosspoint Community Church in northwest Nashville. The program serves children who live in the Park Avenue neighborhood in close proximity to the church. Led by Site Director Debbie Devries, the program offers systematic reading instruction, homework assistance, and enrichment activities to 20 children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Volunteers from Crosspoint assist with the program throughout the week. The program runs from 3pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
